Fair Update for May 15th

We are exactly 1 month from the fair and things are starting to come together. Each class is responsible for a stall and they are as follows:
KG1 - Bean Bag Toss
KG2A - Face Painting
KG2B - Rock Climbing
KG3A - Magic Show
KG3B - Petting Zoo
KG4 - Lucky Dip
Class 1 - Candy, Sweets, Tea Stall
Class 2 - Plant Stall
Class 3 - Tombola
Class 4 - Variety Stall

Some of these stalls will require volunteer help, and others will run themselves. There are still many stalls we will need to put together that will need volunteers. These include:
Book Stall
Drink Stall
Video Games/Arcade
Popcorn/Cotton Candy Stall
Other games for kids
Parking

Jumping tents are organized for the day, and we are hoping to get a clown that will do balloon animals for the kids.

Tickets and posters are currently being made. We are hoping put these up and sell tickets 2 weeks before the event so it is still fresh in the minds of those thinking of coming.

We are still taking in gently used items and prizes right up until the week before the fair, so please feel free to drop any of these things off at the office. As well, we are collecting napkins, drinks and popcorn bags at this point. Soil has also been delivered to the school for us to put into planters and start seedlings or transplant plants.

We are planning a Parent Meeting for Saturday, June 6th at 5:00pm. This meeting is to be held at Surfer's Bay and kids are welcome as there is an area for them to play and a movie will be available for them to watch. We would like to use this time to meet about the fair and get everyone on board, then take the opportunity to spend some social time together as well. We will provide more information as the date draws nearer.

Have a great week!

Fair Update for May 1st

Fair plans are still underway - we have recently sent out notices to companies asking for donations for the fair. Many parents are bringing in items and the PTA shop is filling quickly. Friday meetings are used for discussion and sorting items to store around the school. Please continue to bring in clothes and books and toys for the sale. While we hope to get some support from a plant nursery, now is a good time to start planting seedlings so that they will be a good size come the day of the fair.
We are also working on creating a sign up sheet to send home so that you can sign up to help out for a small portion of the fair - please watch for it.
We could use more tents and chairs on the day, if you know of anyone that can donate these, please let us know.
Besides being a fundraiser, we are hoping to make this a fun day for our kids to remember, and we thank all of you for your encouragement and support.

A Renewed Library for the Students

Recently, we went in and reorganized the books in the library, discarding damaged books and creating a comfortable space where the students will have access to a greater number of books. There are many great titles for the kids to enjoy, but some areas could use a bit of a boost. If you have any non-fiction books or newer chapter books for Class 1 to Class 3, the library would be most grateful.

Fair Updates March 21

Thank you to all of you who are bringing in items for the clothing, book and variety stalls. We are currently using our Friday meeting time to sort and organize items and find places to store them until June. There will be no meeting this week due to field trips and the Intercontinental Fair, but we will meet each Friday after the term break. Please continue to gather items from friends and family and bring them to the office or if you see a PTA member, flag us down and we will be happy to come gather the items from your car. Have a wonderful break!

Library TLC

We will be working in the Library from 8 - 10am on Monday and Wednesday,March 23rd and 25th, sorting and organizing the current library books and developing and sign out system that is easy for the teachers and the students to use. Some of the books are in need of gentle repair as well in order to extend the life of the book. Please feel free to join us in the library.

Wills Fair Update - March 11th

Plans are well underway for our Wills Fair held on June 20th, 2009. Each class has decided on a booth that they are going to be in charge of, and parents are working on securing jump tents, organizing a petting zoo, and volunteering to grill burgers, paint faces and provide advertising!

We are also looking for parents to be in charge of games, balloon sales, and a video game stall. Please talk to the office or any PTA member for more information.

Wills Primary School is going GREEN

As of April 2009, Wills Primary School will be issuing all letters, newsletters and updates via email. If for some reason you are not receiving the monthly Wills Newsletter or updates via email, please submit your most current email address to the office as soon as possible. Together we can start to eliminate paper waste.

This year the Wills annual Intercontinental Expo will focus on Antarctica as we explore Green themes and how Wills students can learn to reduce, reuse and recycle. The Intercontinental Expo will be held Thursday March 26, 2009 from 8:00am - 2:30pm. We will be transforming the school to reflect the theme of Antarctica and, as usual, welcome any assistance from our dynamic parents! All family and friends are welcome to come and tour Antarctica on event day. Snacks and Lunch will be available for purchase.

Please mark your calendar that your child's expo projects are due in on Tuesday, March 24. And keep in mind the possibility of using recycled materials to support the concept of reducing waste and encouraging reuse. We are looking forward to seeing it all come together.

Expo tee shirts will be on sale starting Monday March 16, 2009.

How to leave a comment on the PTA Blog

So, you made it to the PTA Blog and you have something to say... but can't get the comment button to work. Sorry for the frustration. This Blog is fabulous and FREE for us and Wills, but you apparently must create a google account to be interactive with it. Luckily this is very easy. Go to CREATE AN ACCOUNT by clicking on this link and give them your email and a password. Then sign in at the top right corner of this screen and that's it. You are now ready to comment, ask questions, or respond to any of these posts.
If you would like to be an author of these blog posts please leave that comment here too or ask for Constance Van Flandern.
I believe you can subscribe to the blog feed without creating an account, and you can read these entries anytime, but it will not be an interactive experience and we value your constructive feedback.
Thanks!

PTA meeting Friday!

Just a reminder that we will be meeting this Friday at 1:00pm in the computer lab. Our main topic: Will's 10th Anniversary Fair!

We will be reviewing the list of booths that each class wants to run. Parent input on those ideas and how to improve them is exactly what we need right now at this stage of planning. Those of you with access to food vendors, tents, audio equipment, games, or anything that you think will help make this fair special and affordable, please come forward and let us know your thoughts.

We loved Raquel's info booth/tent on sports day--it was really helpful. It was terrific to have that space where everyone could go and find out what needed to be done. We'd like to incorporate this same kind of thing for the fair. Volunteers and ideas to help run the fair as smoothly as possible are always appreciated.

See you Friday!

Wills gets an A+ for Sports Day! (...and extra credit for the Valentine's Disco)

What a fun day! Great to meet so many parents and see the kids compete for fun. Overall it ran very smoothly and all of the parent volunteers did a wonderful job keeping the races lined up and ready to GO! A huge thank you to Mrs. Wills, Mrs. George, Mrs. Franklin and all the faculty and staff that worked hard coaching, judging, wrangling and awarding...not to mention serving all the snacks and treats. This was a wonderful Wills event that showcased Wills Primary's commitment to parent involvement as an important aspect of learning and growth for our kids. Way to go to show school pride.

Sport's Day was extra special coming on the heels of one of the best Wills events of the school year so far--The Valentine's Disco. Everyone seemed in excellent spirits and ready to boogie. The chocolate cake and brownies were especially excellent--and for only $1. The school looked beautiful with the twinkle lighted tents and the Kid's craft hearts for decor. Thank you everyone that worked to pull that magical evening together.

With these two events kicking off 2009, we have set the bar high for the rest of the year. Let's all collaborate to make the Wills 10th Anniversary School Fair, June 20, the best event of all. Be sure to join this blog to get updates on how you can help and stay connected to the Wills Parent community. We have already started collecting gently used items for the Fair Flea market--so feel free to bring in clothes, toys, kitchenware, games, sport equipment, linens, craft supplies, books and music!

Stay tuned for more info or come to the next PTA meeting this Friday February 27th.
See you there.
